As you’re planning for your business’s 2023 marketing strategy, make sure that you keep in mind the trends for the year ahead. According to the Hubspot 2023 Marketing Industry Trends report, nearly 80% of marketers say their industry changed more in the past three years than in the last 50. This is partly due to increased customer access to marketers via social media, how many marketing messages are on social media daily, as well as Covid-19 and economic instability.

Consumers continue to see past many marketing strategies that have worked in the past and desire more intimate connections with who they buy from. Many consumers are starting to budget a little tighter to prepare for a potential recession. This doesn’t necessarily mean that people are less likely to buy from you, it just means that you may have to adjust your marketing language.

To adapt to this current marketing landscape, some 2023 marketing trends include data-driven marketing, direct DM conversations with customers, short-form videos, and LinkedIn.

Data-driven marketing

If consumers want a more customized marketing experience, then it’s important for marketers to learn more about their audience. In 2023, many marketers will use deeper analytical data to provide more targeted messages. Go beyond demographics and learn their interests, how they like to shop, where they consume media, what causes they care about, and where they spend time online.

Direct message strategy

According to Hubspot, a DM strategy has the 3rd highest ROI of any marketing trend and use will grow in 2023. Currently, 29% of marketers employ this method, and 15% plan on trying it in 2023. These methods include manually messaging customers to answer questions, help guide them to the right product, or to foster relationships with them. There are both automated services that can be used, however, many social media managers are adding this strategy to their offerings.

Short-form video continues to grow

Short-form video content has dominated conversations around marketing trends for the last year or two, and its use has only steadily increased. It’s not going anywhere. As it’s available via Tik Tok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and Youtube Shorts now, it is relevant to virtually every industry. Many paid ads on social media utilize short-form videos now as well. If your business is on Facebook or Instagram, their algorithms are currently prioritizing short-form video. We suggest trying this content strategy to be seen by your audience.

LinkedIn is where B2B businesses want to be

If your business serves other businesses, then LinkedIn is where to be in 2023. Although the site is not new, it’s seeing record growth and engagement, according to Forbes. In a recent article, they claimed that the platform will account for 25% of B2B advertising in two years, and the platform is expected to continue to grow.
