Joseph B. Diehl provides business advisory services to nonprofits and other businesses who need help with solving business problems. His background in accounting and finance, and being an attorney – combine with 5 decades of real-life experiences as a Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Executive Director and Consultant.
Joe’s primary business today including current work with existing Studio 99 clients – is being the Managing Director of Diehl & Co. LLC, a Seattle-based consulting and fundraising organization that he founded 25 years ago. Joe recently completed a contract role as Interim Executive Director of the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) from September 2023 to June 2024. Previously, Mr. Diehl served in a contract role as NAIHC’s Deputy Director from 2017-2019, and served as the Northwest Indian Housing Association (NWIHA – region VI of NAIHC) contract Executive Director from 1998-2016. In addition to NWIHA, he also managed two other membership associations under long-term contracts – The Affordable Housing Management Association of WA and the WA Council for Affordable & Rural Council. He has also developed training curricula over a wide variety of topics and personal interests.
Over his career, Joe invested five decades of his work life in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, beginning at the entry level. The first half of his career was invested in accounting and finance – in the for-profit sector. Having earned his BS degree at Northern Illinois University, Joe became a Certified Public Accountant and then enrolled in night school at UIC-Law, passing the Illinois Bar Exam in 1979. The second half of his career was dedicated to nonprofits and helping people.
His stated mission statement is, “to inspire and empower those who share my beliefs and values.” In 2023, he graduated from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy to become a functional medicine health coach, helping colleagues to improve their health, wellness and lifestyle. Joe’s signature strengths are (obviously) a Love of Learning, Gratitude, Curiosity – and fortunately, Humor.
